The Shenzhen International Maritime Sustainable Development Center was recently inaugurated in Qianhai. This effort signifies Qianhai's collaboration with Dalian Maritime University to further enhance the establishment of maritime think tanks and better serve the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
Simultaneously, the English version of "China's Ocean Governance Development Report (2023)", the country's first book on the development of maritime rule of law, was released. The book examines and illustrates the philosophy and practice of China's maritime rule of law from an academic perspective.
With its expanded area, Qianhai now boasts 68 kilometers of coastline, 600 square kilometers of sea area, 13 islands, and six ports, including five first-class ports. Additionally, Qianhai plans to develop the modern marine industry as its new growth driver in the future. Among the 12 industrial clusters being established in Qianhai, two are related to the marine industry: the marine engineering equipment cluster and the shipping service cluster.
Currently, Qianhai is home to approximately 3,400 maritime enterprises, including China International Marine Containers (Group) Co., Ltd. (CIMC) and APT Mobile Satcom Limited. Furthermore, four maritime industrial parks are being planned in this region.
Wang Jianhua, director of Shenzhen Maritime Safety Administration, stated that the inauguration of the Shenzhen International Maritime Sustainable Development Center will further enhance cooperation between the Shenzhen Maritime Safety Administration and various professional maritime think tanks. This will promote the development of Qianhai's modern shipping industry, the training of international maritime talent, and ultimately help Shenzhen become a global marine center city and an international shipping hub.
The representatives from such maritime enterprises as CIMC and Yantian Port Group, as well as nearly 100 experts and scholars from maritime colleges and universities in China, India, Japan, South Korea, Myanmar, the Philippines and Vietnam, participated in the event.
