The Kwu Tung North project is a significant part of the Hong Kong Government’s Northern Metropolitan Area development plan and a key project for optimizing urban infrastructure and enhancing Hong Kong’s international competitiveness. The cooling system will have a capacity of 18,000 refrigeration tons and will cover an area of approximately 400,000 square meters.

When compared to traditional cooling methods, Qianhai’s regional centralized cooling system can save 130 million kilowatt hours of electricity annually and reduce carbon emissions equivalent to the carbon sink capacity of 5,000 acres of forest.

Since 2014, Qianhai has been planning and building 10 cooling stations in the area. The first phases of the No. 2, No. 4, No. 5, No. 6, and No. 10 cooling stations have been completed and are operational. They can provide cooling services for 4.72 million square meters of space with a cooling capacity of about 190,000 refrigeration tons.

In 2020, Shenzhen Qianhai Energy Technology Development Co. Ltd. won the bid for the Kai Tak Development Area to provide centralized cooling services for 810,000 square meters of office and public buildings in the area. The project achieved temporary cooling by the end of 2023 and was fully completed and put into operation in June 2024.
