Around 20,000 runners will participate in the Shenzhen Bao’an Marathon 2023, which is set to kick off at Coastal Square at 7:30 a.m. Sunday, organizers revealed at a news conference yesterday.
The event received 56,979 registrations from 29 countries, according to the briefing.
The full marathon will start at Coastal Square in Bao’an District and conclude at the Shenzhen World Exhibition & Convention Center, while the half marathon route will begin at Coastal Square, loop around Bao’an Boulevard, and finish back at Coastal Square.
Top prize money for the full marathon winners has been set at US$30,000, while half marathon winners can vie for a maximum prize of 10,000 yuan (US$1,399).
The running track will not be fully enclosed to minimize disruption to residents’ travel.
To enhance the overall experience, the marathon will feature special performances, including traditional folk and cultural displays, as well as band performances at 42 designated sites along the route to cheer on the runners and create a festive atmosphere.
To provide convenience for participants, 59 hotels in Bao’an will offer late check-out and breakfast packaging services. Additionally, Metro lines 1, 3, 5, 11, and 20 will start operations at 5:30 a.m. on the day of the race, earlier than the usual schedule. Runners will also enjoy discounted tickets to designated scenic spots and promotions at the Uniwalk shopping mall.
