A total of 4,684 wishes made by netizens from across the country are being displayed on one of the geostationary satellites carried by the Long March 2D carrier rocket that was launched at the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center on Jan. 15.

These wishes, accompanied by stunning photos of the Earth and the Milky Way captured by an Insta 360 panoramic camera mounted on the satellite, were unveiled at a media briefing held at Insta 360’s office in Qianhai yesterday afternoon.

Collected by Insta 360 through Weibo 23 months ago, these 4,684 wishes are now being showcased on rotation in space. Netizens can use their own ID number on a WeChat miniprogram to obtain a photo of Earth along with their specific wish. Each time they share these photos via WeChat, Insta 360 will donate a free lunch to a left-behind child in Jiangxi, with a maximum quota of 30,000 lunches.

According to a senior Insta 360 staff member, this is the first time in history a camera has been fully exposed in space. The camera, part of the company’s flagship X series, weighs merely 149 grams. Despite its lightweight design, it boasts the capability to capture high-definition panoramic videos in 5.7K resolution. The camera’s lens, mainboard, and system have been upgraded to withstand extreme temperatures, radiation, shocks, and vibrations, ensuring its normal operation in the harsh environment in space.
