Report gives insights into development of global bay cities
Experts and scholars convened at an exchange and promotion meeting held in Qianhai on July 28 morning to discuss matters concerning the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA).
During the event, the Report on World Bay Area Development Index (2022) was unveiled, providing valuable insights for GBA’s growth.
The report, a collaborative effort between the Publicity Department of the CPC Shenzhen Municipal Committee and the Shenzhen Academy of Social Sciences, presented a scientific evaluation of the development level of 10 prominent cities in the New York Bay Area, San Francisco Bay Area, Tokyo Bay Area and the GBA. The assessment was conducted through the establishment of a comprehensive development evaluation index system, encompassing factors such as economic foundation, economic strength, livability level, environmental quality and international influence.
According to the evaluation results, Tokyo, New York and London emerged as first-tier cities, with comprehensive scores exceeding 0.94. Meanwhile, Shenzhen, San Francisco, Hong Kong and Sydney secured their positions as second-tier cities with scores higher than 0.60, while Guangzhou, San Jose and Macao were classified as third-tier cities.
The experts and scholars reached a consensus that the GBA possesses exceptional characteristics, such as its exceptionally high level of openness and robust economic vitality. These distinctive attributes have laid the foundation for the GBA to evolve into a world-class city cluster.
Qianhai, recognized as a pivotal force within the GBA, has already achieved significant milestones. To date, Qianhai has introduced 805 noteworthy institutional innovations, with 78 of them being replicated and promoted nationwide. Moreover, Qianhai is home to over 10 high-end think tanks and 158 industrial think tanks spanning various domains.
