Recently, the Ministry of Science and Technology released 2021’s record of national makerspaces with a total of 350 institutions on the list. Among the listed institutions, 14 are from Shenzhen, including two incubators based in Qianhai, the Chuangbo Incubator and the Haizhong Makersapce of the Hong Kong Youth Professional Alliance. It is the first time that incubators introduced by the Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Youth Innovation and Entrepreneur Hub (hereinafter referred to as the hub) have been selected as national-level makerspaces.
The Chuangbo Incubator was established at the end of 2018 and is the first makerspace introduced by the hub providing services for Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan young people who intend to establish new businesses in the Qianhai area. Chuangbo has incubated a total of 29 start-ups from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan with a total amount of financing reaching 60 million yuan over a three year period. Chuangbo has hosted the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao-Tawian Youth Innovation and Entrepreneur Competition (Taiwan) for five straight years, providing a one-stop service for young people.
The Haizhong Makerspace was established in July 2016 and serves to solicit more local Hong Kong young people to establish businesses on the mainland. This makerspace has cultivated five national-level high-tech companies and two teams of talented people with a total financing of 140 million yuan.
As of the end of May this year, the hub has incubated a total of 591 start-ups, among which 340 are from Hong Kong, Macao or Taiwan, and it also has cultivated 23 national-level high-tech companies and 12 teams of talented people.
“We will continue to work with the incubation institutions to optimize the innovation and entrepreneurship environment of Qianhai and help more young people from Hong Kong and Macao to realize their dreams here,” said an official from the Qianhai Service Group, which operates the hub.
