Renmin University of China emerged as the champion after outscoring the Peking University School of Transnational Law at the 2023 FDI Moot Shenzhen. This prestigious event took place yesterday morning at the Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration (SCIA) Tower in Qianhai.
Out of the 41 participating teams from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, and Macao, eight teams showcased remarkable performances in the final round. Tsinghua University and the China-EU School of Law of China University of Political Science and Law secured the second runner-up positions. The University of Hong Kong, China University of Political Science and Law, Shandong University, and Beijing Normal University secured fifth to eighth places in the final competition.
These eight teams will now advance to compete in the 2023 FDI Moot Global Competition, while the teams ranking ninth to 12th will have the opportunity to participate in the Asia-Pacific regional competition and compete for a spot in the global competition.
With the participation of over 200 industry professionals from 46 countries and regions worldwide, this competition boasted an impressive lineup of referees. Additionally, 25 renowned international organizations and arbitration institutions, including the International Center for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) of the World Bank, the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), the UNCITRAL Regional Center for Asia and the Pacific (UNCITRAL RCAP), and the International Chamber of Commerce International Court of Arbitration (ICC Court), along with 13 co-organizing and supporting law firms, contributed their professional expertise and support to this year’s competition.
FDI Moot Shenzhen was initiated in 2020 as a tangible effort by SCIA to fulfill the Central Government and State Council’s mandate of establishing a joint arbitration center for international investment in Shenzhen.
