- Construction of major projects starts in Qianhai

August 26, 2019, marks the 39th anniversary of the establishment of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone and the 9th anniversary of the Qianhai Cooperation Zone.
A ceremony marking the start of the construction of major projects in Qianhai in the third quarter of 2019 was held on this special day, aiming to thoroughly implement the important instructions of President Xi Jinping on Qianhai, while continuing to promote the construction of a new international city center and make new contributions to the construction of the pilot demonstration area of socialism with Chinese characteristics in Shenzhen.
It was announced that a total of 11 projects would start construction, covering major infrastructure, industrial development and talent housing, with a total investment of about 10.2 billion yuan (US$1.45 billion). Among which, seven projects are located in the Qianhai area, including the Metallurgical Science and Technology Building, Xinhua Insurance Building, the Nanhai Group Qianhaiwan W7 warehouse, Yuewan River (circular water corridor) Phase II, the Qianwan No.1 Road smart street lights, a Phase I smart bus stations, and land leveling and soft foundation treatment on the Chanwan Canal, with a total investment of about 5.98 billion yuan.

The Metallurgical Science and Technology Building Project is the first research headquarters of China Metallurgical Group Corp. in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. An academician work station and a postdoctoral work station will be established at the headquarters, two national-level scientific research platforms will also be relocated to the location. The project aims to comprehensively implement the national innovation-driven development strategy, actively explore new models and mechanisms for technological innovation, strengthen the role of science and technology in the development of industries and make positive contributions to Shenzhen's construction as a national independent innovation demonstration zone.

The Xinhua Insurance Building project will serve as the headquarters of Xinhua Insurance. The building has adhered to an ecologically, environmentally friendly, people-oriented and intelligent design concept to develop an innovative office space. The project will fully implement Qianhai's industrial orientation and urban development philosophy, and strive to become a landmark building.
The Qianwan No. 1 Road smart street lights and Phase I smart bus stations are pilot projects for Qianhai to develop a new type of smart city. A total of 130 smart street lights and 60 intelligent bus stations will be built. Micro base stations, wireless network equipment, and HD road and security monitoring will be integrated with the street lights, and a monitoring and management platform will be established to ensure the normal operation of the lights.

Three projects are expected to start construction in the Shekou area, including the DY02-06 land plot, DY03-04 land plot, and DY03-05 land plot in Taiziwan, with a total investment of about 4.2 billion yuan. After the completion of these projects, the planning of the Taiziwan international coastal landscape will be further improved, the commercial atmosphere of the Qianhai & Shekou free trade area will be enhanced, and the important strategic role of Qianhai in the Belt and Road Initiative will be brought into full play.

Nanshan District will witness the commencement of the Chiwan No. 6 Road slope landscape improvement project, with a total investment of about 27 million yuan.
Tian Fu, director of the Authority of China (Guangdong) Pilot Free Trade Zone Qianhai & Shekou Area, and the chief commander of the Qianhai new city construction headquarters, attended the ceremony and announced the start of construction. Du Peng, director of the Qianhai Cooperation Zone Authority and deputy chief commander of the Qianhai new city construction headquarters, presided over the ceremony.
Representatives from the Shenzhen Municipal Development and Reform Commission, the Shezhen Municipal Planning and Natural Resources Bureau, the Shenzhen Municipal Housing and Construction Bureau, the Shenzhen Municipal Water Affairs Bureau, the Qianhai Cooperation Zone Authority, the Nanshan District Government, the Bao'an District Government, China Merchants Group, and Shenzhen Metro Group, as well as their frontline workers, attended the ceremony.
